Biblical Principle - We Are To Serve God and Not Money

Our society in many ways idolizes money and many believers are affected by this idol worship. We are made to serve money on our jobs. We serve money instead of money serving us. Many of us are in debt and have the slogan, “I owe, I owe, so it’s off to work I go.” Then when God asks us for resources that have been entrusted to us we fill guilty, followed by anxiety. We must have faith that we are not meant to be there servants of money but God alone.

This final text helps us to understand an advanced biblical principle in faith to finance connection. It is the principle of giving. The Apostle Paul quotes Jesus in Acts 20:35. Paul reminds his disciples of the teaching of Jesus in this way:

“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words that the Lord Jesus himself said: “It is more blessed to give then to receive.”(NIV)

Biblical Principle - The Giver Will Always Be Blessed

I must admit that I found this principle hard to believe. How could it be that the giver is Blessed. It was not until recently that I understood. Giving is the means by which we help others and open up spiritual channels for us to be blessed. We are promised that there is a blessing that will be associated when we help others. This is the blessing of knowing we have helped someone who is in need. The second part of this blessing is the fact that givers are also materially blessed because they give. Proverbs 11:24-28 puts it this way.

“One man gives freely, yet gain even more; another withholds unduly, but come to poverty. A generous man will prosper.
